Meet The Pastor - Pastor Elington I. Bates

Pastor Bates of Mount Olive Baptist Church of Woodstock GA Elington I. Bates is a native of Natchez, Adams County, MS. He is the fourth of eight children of the late Rev. David Bates, Sr. and Rosa B. Bates. Pastor Bates is married to Cynthia “Jae” Bates. They are the proud parents of six grown children, eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Sergeant Bates served his country via the U.S. Army from 1967-1971. Following his military service, he earned a B.A. degree in Applied Behavioral Science. Elington enjoyed a career as a General Motors Field Manager in the Northeast and Southeast regions from 1976 until his retirement in 2002.
Prior to his retirement from General Motors, Elington accepted a transfer from Boston, MA to Atlanta, GA whereupon he united with the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church (PHC) Of Roswell, GA. He served under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Sabin P. Strickland in various capacities including, Teacher, Deacon, Elder, Chairman of Strategic Planning, and Church Administrator. While serving as a PHC Deacon, Elington answered his call to the gospel ministry. Over the next ten years, God granted him much grace and favor through PHC’s Ministerial Training Program, and on-site courses through Carver Bible College.

Reverend Bates served faithfully as an Associate Minister of the Pleasant Hill Church (PHC) until he was called to Shepherd the Mount Olive MBC of Woodstock, Georgia in October of 2009.

Pastor Bates is a witness and a firm believer that the Word of God through preaching, teaching, and the ministry of the Holy Spirit can and does transform lives.

11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.
